One of the great benefits of brewing in New Haven is our water. All of the water used at the brewery comes from Lake Gaillard, a private reservoir with soft water characteristics that are perfect for lager brewing. The 13 billion-gallon man-made reservoir was built in the 1920s and receives its water from natural watercourses in Guilford, Madison, and Killingworth. The reservoir is enormous, stretching over 1.5 miles long and 1 mile wide at its largest points, providing water service to over 500,000 customers of the regional water authority. The lake took 5 years to build and at that time, was the largest engineering project ever undertaken in Connecticut. As big of a project as it was, we are thankful to be sourcing our water from such a pure source.
